there is both a disconnect (as it seems we see the landscape only through some screen) and connect (dust and dry land) between foreground and background creating an interesting tension.

This is a hell of a good photo. Deconstructing it in words would be like trying to explain why people find the Mona Lisa's smile so fascinating. Certain pictures should be acknowledged and left at that.

I have to echo some of the previous comments.  I was immediately drawn to this photo -- it fascinates me -- yet I cannot put into words why that is.  A certain compositional balance and atmosphere but there is a lot more to it than that
