I took this photo on a whim, I thought that the branches gave a different

composition to this oft photographed building. The reason I would like this

photo critiqued is that I am pleased with it, but also really trying to improve

my skills-I find it is hard for me to be objective about some of my own

photos, and so would appreciate ay feedback (good or bad) on any of them.

Using the branches and leaves to put this castle (though if I can be a bit anal, it seems a church?) in a context is, in my view, a very good call. It indeed helps giving a different touch.  Also the high contrast of the leaves versus the background works out very well, I think.

There are a few points I would try to work on a bit in post-processing: the red roof on the left is quite distracting and disturbing the tranquility of the image; I'd try to tone its saturation down a bit. I'd also look at different crops; the leaves on the top are a bit much, making the photo a bit heavy and dense there.

f you can go back to try this photo again, try it with a smaller aperture, or focus on the building; the leaves look very sharp, while the actual subject looks slightly out of focus. While this can be a nice effect, I'm not too sure if it works in this case.

The most important, though, is looking for and finding original points of view and get a photo that isn't the usual standard image - and that sure succeeded here!

Natalie. I agree with Wouter's comments. The view point is great as is the framing by the leaves although I would be tempted to crop a little off the top and bottom, moving away from the square format. the large amount of leaves at the top of the image is a little distracting. Also it looks a little "tilted" to me, Rotating very slightly clockwise may give an improvement. However a good shot. Rgds. Rick
