jeffl7 0 Posted July 26, 2015 This has a documentary - plus - old postcard feel with the bright sky paired with vignetting. I could imagine turning it around to discover a kitschy caption such as "Greetings from the sandy banks of [insert local river here]." Link to comment
JamieK 1 Posted July 26, 2015 except that there was no river here two weeks earlier. as you must be aware, there was a tremendous amount of rain in the southwest this year. at about the time that the first bunch of storms was tailing off, this river shifted approximately 400 yards, taking several houses and threatening Triple X Road (aka XXX Road), in Choctaw, Oklahoma. There are some other pictures, one of which shows the well pipe for the departed house sticking thirty feet or so out of the river. i think the road is still there, but still closed. Thanks Jeff. best, j Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted July 26, 2015 Funny, I was going to make up an Indian-sounding name for the river, but didn't because I thought this must be England and my inventiveness would fall flat. As you know, I spent five years in Oklahoma, so that's where my mind went when I saw this pic even knowing nothing about the location. Link to comment
JamieK 1 Posted July 27, 2015 half of it, at least. It's the North Canadian, also known as the Oklahoma River for some reason. i do remember your sojourn in Oklahoma. Thanks again Jeff. best, j Link to comment
JamieK 1 Posted July 28, 2015 The North Canadian had just shifted by about 400 yards and consumed several houses. Please let me know what you think. Link to comment
Pierre Dumas 302 Posted July 29, 2015 This picture is improving! Way to go to the suggestion I made, though! Best regards, Jamie! PDE Link to comment
JamieK 1 Posted July 29, 2015 had to risk my life for this one though. the bank was about to collapse into the river. Thanks Pierre. best, j Link to comment
hstelljes 41 Posted July 29, 2015 Fine documentary image of a sad situation Jamie. I heard about the rains but images always bring it home. I looked at the one you referred to with the pipe sticking out of the water, more sadness. I can only imagine what those people went through.BR, Holger Link to comment
JamieK 1 Posted July 29, 2015 What they were going through was removing their possessions until seconds before their house fell into the angry river. Crazy Oklahomans! put http:// and three w's before this to see what my friend Sam shot the same day: .digitalrev.com/photo_detail?id=33793652 (pn reacts badly to links) Thanks Holger. best, j Link to comment
Landrum Kelly 65 Posted July 31, 2015 The Canadian has a special character from the moment it comes down through the mountains of eastern New Mexico. It is at its best in Texas (for a small piece) and then throughout its mature length in Oklahoma, in my opinion. It is one of my favorite rivers. I'm not sure why. It just has a certain special something. Good one, Jamie. --Lannie Link to comment
