jenniferazehner 0 Posted October 25, 2015 Hello! Scanned this image from film, took with my Bronica SQ-A/Tmax 400 film. I am interested in street photography, capturing the fleeting moments and feelings of motion one has on the streets of NYC. Any advice? Any feedback? The darker blur in the upper left hand corner... it was a person closer to me, does it distract? Add to the "stealth" of the photo, framing the action? I am debating cropping it out, to focus more on the boy and his ball, and the onlooker in the background. Thoughts? I appreciate the critiques so much! Thanks! :-) Link to comment
Wouter Willemse 851 Posted October 28, 2015 Sorry, I'm not much of a street photographer, so there isn't much advice I can give to you!But for this image - I wouldn't change it. The dark blur on the upper left helps framing the action; if the area there would be open, the overall balance of the composition would be a lot different, I feel - less focussed.Cropping it down to the action would also remove the context - it would become just a photo of a boy playing, basically. It's the context that makes this image work for me - seeing all the others go away from us, while the boy runs back to get his ball and the onlooker the only one to note what he's doing - if the other people are cropped out, a good part of the "story" goes missing. So, in short, I think it's a really fine photo as it is. It sets an atmosphere right, it has a sense of a story developing, it's framed such that the viewer is guided to the important elements in the composition. Really a fine photo. Link to comment
