Peeking out from under the reef. Your thoughts and comments are most

welcome, thanks for looking.

The face and especially the eyes are impressive indeed, but this is not enough to have a great or an excellent underwater shot. The lower part is way too bright and the most important of all the image is out of focus. I think you focused on rock above the head and the wide open aperture you were probably forced to use doesn't give enough DOF. If the image was taken in an aquarium i think this creature deserves a second visit Holger.

Michail from a technical standpoint you are absolutely right, this is far from my best aquarium photo. I have submitted others that were superior to this. The problem with this capture was the aquarium was a round cylinder and there were many people crowding the area. So unfortunately it was a quick hit and run.

I know the feeling Holger. We have a decent aquarium here in Crete and i have hundreds of blurred photos from there. Those @#$!@# simply wouldn't stay still to get a good photo of them.

I am glad you agree with me, sometimes speaking the truth in here becomes toxic, if you know what i mean.

Take care and keep on shooting and keep on posting not only the perfect images but also the ones you love or the ones worth sharing (like this one).

I've never seen such a 'mean and grouchy fish'! for starters that is one reason I am glad you posted this image!!! It's magenta colouring is very interesting as well. This creature would be great used in 'commercial work' - it could represent a full range of emotions on the angrier range of the scale! I will check back to see if anyone knows what it's name is. Not a face that you'd like to experience in the dark!!

Dear Gail, You have brought a smile to my face with your comments. I love the grouch and commercial references. You're so on the money, thanks again. See you soon.

This may not be, in your opinion, your best aquarium capture, but it works well for me, especially the subject's colors.  I pity the hapless reef fish that swims too close to this creature's gaping jaws.
