The background and the patterns create a great deal of visual tension, and then relief to find the animal in it. Very eye-catching and attention holding image.

I agree with Pierre about the originality of this image.  As an abstract, it is quite successful.  It appears to have been solarized.  Whatever technique you used, the tonal modifications and the imprinting of letters are most interesting.

After converting the original into a grayscale image, I duplicated the layer and inverted it. Then wrote the word using eraser tool!
