My childhood friend hanging out by the old train tracks. This was originally a color photo but I did black and white processing with color negative in the dark room using a 3.5 (?) filter.

I love the picture, but don't really care for the framing and tilt. I wish I could take portraits like this...

Judy, the jpeg you posted is really too microscopic to be fully appreciated - it is about one half (on each side) of the allowed maximum, and the broad frame makes things worse. From what I see, the face is fine, and the rails are appropriate, but the rest of the background is not that much, and perhaps might as well have been left overexposed. I understand that you printed a color negative on black and white photographic paper - I wonder who still does this, when it is so much easier to desaturate a color photo in PS and then add some toning. I know, darkroom is fun and the "chemical" technique used adds a bit of extra value in my opinion, but probably the final effects are undistinguishable.
