Great flower shot, my eye goes straight to the center red stamens . However not sure of the background, from my point of view either its not dark enough (black) or it should be much brighter with the green leaves/stems blurred out with bokeh . I think my brain is saying "well if the flower is in the light then why is the leaves in the dark?"  The shadows on the leftmost petals are also a bit of a distraction.  The left bottom corner also looks in shadow from an artifact of the photo taking process

AJ,

Nice shot of this peony, particularly since it's outside. Yeah, the lr shadow is there- just makes you be more aware next time  :)

Amazing detail and vivid colors help to give us a visual treat.  As for the leaves in the background, they become a distraction only if the viewer allows them to do so.  The brightness of the flower is quite enough to hold the viewer's attention.  Moreover, in my opinion, the shadows add nuance and interest to the image.

Bravo, flowermeister!

My best,

Sorry I'm late on this one AJ. It is not only beautiful but the clear details really standout against the nice dark background.

I got a capture of one of these...I think it is the same but the one I got was a deeper fushcia.  I was told it was a Chinese Tree Peony. They are sooo beautiful. Your detail in the stamens is much better than mine!! This is such a lovely shot!

Yes this is a tree peony.  We have a number of them and they are really beautiful.    AJ
