I have spent a lot of time on this site, looking at the work of others and posting some of my own. I started off here with absolutely no experience, so I would look at others photos and try to duplicate them - not to copy them as my own, but to learn how they did it. Anywho, without writing an entire text here, my point is that I have seen your work and I have been greatly inspired by it. I only hope that one day I can create a photo as beautiful and full of life as most of yours. I believe it would be a great loss to this site (and to me -selfish motivations, but true-) for you to quit now. If you enjoy taking photos and sharing them, don't let the comments of others stop you. There are many people out there who believe that their style is the only correct style, and criticize anything different. These people are generally a**holes and probably don't deserve a second thought, but their words sometimes sting anyway. Then there are those who embrace change and originality and will actually offer up an opinion without being uptight or negative. I think I'm starting to ramble now, so my point is that you control how you feel about your work, not "Joe Schmoe," so don't let their words make your mind up for you. Heck, I've asked for critiques on several of my photos and have received hardly any - at this point I'd take mean, evil critiques as opposed to none ;) I could keep going, but the longer I type I'm sure the less sense I'll make.... Don't go, keep posting!

I fully agree, you should not go and hide. Just ignore some of the comments. You have a wonderful taste, which is of course entirely yours, ... I enjoy your work, even if I sometimes didn't comment...

I have recived some comment and disturbing e-mails regarding my

selfportraits. I just wanted to thank all the people (you know who

you are) who were very supporting to me the whole time on photo.net.

I am not gonna put any more of my selfportraits on this site. I

reallly dont need all this, I did it only for of fun and it's not

fun any more.

Great portrait. Good composition. I like the way you used the squares to draw attention to the face and neck especially. Good thinking creatively to make a portrait something more than just another portrait.

I hope you will not cave in. I suppose putting up with this sort of thing is now an inevitable part of life. But your photos, including your self portraits, have added a ray of sunshine to my days and I look forward whenever I visit this site to seeing whether you have anything posted. Mike Turner

... don't go. Your self portraits are amongst the best portrait photos i've ever seen in photo.net. You go away and photo.net and it's users lose a great photographer. Please reconsider, report any abuse to photo.net 's e-mail adress, they sure will take action against any abusers since you are such a respectful photographer. Cheers.

Tamara,

I normally don't say much and usually don't feel the need to comment on other peoples work or what they have said, but this came as a bit of a surprise to me.

I've joined photo.net about a year ago and soon noticed your creative work. I thought, now this is a trully gifted and open-minded girl. Making self-portraits, not giving a damn about what people are going to say about it - what a great attitude!

You now say that posting self-portraits isn't fun anymore - I respect your decision as I believe we all do, but the reason you decided to do so is what's bothering me. People have all sorts of problems and they find all sorts of ways to cough them out, sometimes these ways can be trully "stupid" and hard for the sane ones to understand.

What I believe you should do is ask yourself: Will I stop posting self-portraits because I'm really bored doing that(if that is so, go ahead) or will I stop posting them because some guys made dumb remarks about my work, how I look, etc. They are the ones having problems with you! You should not be the one having problems with them! By saying you won't post anymore, you admit that you are having a problem - a "problem that should not have a reason to exist"!

A friendly greeting from your neighbour in Slovenia!

Tamara, don't worry about the jerks. Don't forget- you have fans that await your photos and visit you often. I used to leave PN and go back again and again, but having a few bad apples is not worth laeaving other friends. Internet is not like life- some pathetic people will give you problems only because noone knows them and they don't care what you think. You must know that those same people would never said this to your face. They are too weak. Do not take it seriously because it is not worth it. Those jerks only thrive on this and the bigger reaction they get the happier they are. Please, stay!

Those cowards are idiots. They're just jealous, of your work, of you're beauty, and of the attention you not only get, but you deserve. If you stop posting, they win. Block their emails and continue onward.

When I first arrived at Photo.net your folio was the first one I saw, just thanks alot cause your work is great and your judgement of light is just fantastic. It really inspired me to follow through with all the big ideas I had. I like taking photos but am still in the experiment/learning stage, but it makes me happy. If your stuff makes you happy to show your friends and yourself thats great. Its good to see your ideas along with everyone elses. Keep going. It makes those that are weaker become stronger.

think about letting yourself down. The one thing about Photo.Net that I like to comment on, is the fact that to many people can access to it and give their vision. In cases like these it should be limited to those who are really interested in the profession or the art. But those with their 'fundamentalist' ideas about mind and body, who don't understand what it is to be struggling with the process of making an image be excluded from delivering any comment.

I did see real nice work that one can discuss about in a serious way and that others can learn from. You, my dear, are an example "par excellence" and I mean that. People should be inspired by you and those who still like to comment without knowledge better be silent and enjoy your work and try to understand your quest. Many photographers started as an amateur and became very self-aware artists. You, my dear, did rise above a level where sick minds can reach you. Stay upright and keep looking for that ultimate picture. I don't remember who the phrase was from, but asked for his best photo he answered: "The best photo I will make tomorow".

Please give us, serious and maybe critical orleans, a chance to see you grow even further and keep publishing, for it is a real joy to see both your face and your work.

With much professional esteem and respect,

Hans Molenkamp.

PS. Did anyone ever tell you that you are beautifull? Not? Then I like to be the first.

No Tamara, ou're wrong! You can't finish to put your self-portraits (and you're so beautiful) only 'cause some idiot have stupid comments about you and your work! Just imagine if Kapa had made this choice following the people that told him: "stop with all this war pictures"... Im I right?

Don't do that!!!

Tamara... I don't know the nature of the negative comments or emails but I do know they must come from disturbed people.

Many photographers do a lot of work with one primary model. You've found that model in yourself and I can't think of a model that would be more cooperative and easier to work with.

I've never seen your work as self-portraiture. Your work is just simply beautiful and inspired work. It just seems to me that you've found the best model available to work with and that was yourself.

To hell with the critics. They are cheap and everywhere.

This is my second comment regarding your portfolio.

I was wondering if you have contacted the photo.net personell about the "sick, disturbing" emails you have received with regard to your work. I can't possibly conceive that this type of harrassment would be tolerated on this forum.

Depending on what was said to you, not only might

it be inappropriate, it could be (at least here in the U.S.) against the law.

And photo.net personell: what is your policy regarding unwanted, harrassment email from other

members? I cannot find any information on the site.

I agree with some of the other posts, don't go. I am new to this site and I have seen your work and would strive to get my photos as good as yours. Your work is god and therating show it. Forget the idiots. Continue on I say.

What I think is that we have here very egocentric self concentrated, a little bit perverse women, which want to show off, and a group of men which are more concentrated on her beauty then the quality of the work which is good but average.

I just came across your portfolio and was quite impressed. I feel it would be a shame if you let a few ill informed individuals keep you from posting such fine work. Here's hoping we get to see more of your work and more self portraits. Don't let the mental midgets get you down! :)
