I have had to manipulate the background in post-processing to try to

eliminate it as a distraction. I have desaturated iand darkened it.

The heron has been pretty much left alone except for sharpening and

contrasts. My question is whether this has been enough, or if there

are any ides about improving the image. Thanks.

Killer, great shot, but I see what you mean about isolating the heron from a busy background.  'Beautiful as is, and I certainly lack the skills to do what would make it stronger. The far wing has almost a surreal look, like maybe oversaturated (could just be a natural shadow light. I would like less saturation there. It would soften the look, but that would be natural in that kind of shaded view. The brighter greens of the background would be the only other parts I would tone down.
