AmyHelmick 0 Posted March 28, 2015 Two cool things about this one: first, I really like the tones. You really captured the sense of a rainy day.Second, the slightly off-set pole is suggestive of the mast of a ship. It pairs nicely with the tilt (?) or unlevel parking area. Even if this is a lens angle effect, it works well to add interest to this everyday suburban scene.Amy Link to comment
Landrum Kelly 65 Posted March 28, 2015 Thanks, Amy. After too many trips through perspective correction, I have no idea where the horizon was. I was really just trying out a cheap backup lens for my f/2.8 midrange ace. I know that it is over-processed (way too much curves and levels adjustments!), but I sort of like it anyway. --Lannie Link to comment
Landrum Kelly 65 Posted March 28, 2015 As for the lens test, the cheap Nikon zoom (less than $350 used/EXC+ with case, caps and hood from KEH.COM) came through fine on the D800E. It is sure a lot lighter than my f/2.8 midrange zoom--and therefore is fun to shoot, with less financial risk. Shooting into the sun is such sweet sorrow. --Lannie Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted March 28, 2015 Lannie, you're like a serial user of cheap lenses, forever experimenting. As one who knows very little about lenses, I just focus on the end result and it's very good here. I really like the depth and the dull, wet-weather colors in this picture, the bisecting pole (yes, very much like a ship's mast) and especially that peeling patch of blue sky that adds a touch of the eternal to a very mundane scene.
