Why would anyone be crazy enough to take a picture like this. I guess it's up to you and me to answer that. Personally I believe it appears to be an attempt to explain the Big Bang theory. The evidence of past cataclysms is written on the wall. Literally.

At first glance it appeared to be birds flying through a sky, with power lines and trees, above the wreckage of a building.

 

I prefer my version of reality, thanks.

My initial thought from the thumbnail was similar to Lex's.  I saw bats emerging from a chimney.  Where I live we have bridges that house a million bats, and they put on a show like this each dusk, so that no doubt prepped my mind to see bats in your photo.

So....... To continue with this talk of fantasy... I'm seeing you work with a photo assistant and having them drop this cinder block repeatedly as you shoot away in order to get just the splash effect you want. Now don't you go disillusioning me by telling me that the block is stationary. I'd like to think you had to work harder than that to get this 'intriguing' image :=}
