the gesture alone is already kind of cool (and archetypical -"The young gun" - like from the movies). It's emphasized by the opposing other guy: I love how the tonality of cothes is almost exactly opposite, his face covered with some dark cloth (vs. brighter uncovered face).

Capturing such a moment in a flawless composition requires a keen eye and good observation of scenes that may run through an elusive "decisive moment".

What I also find remarkable is the strict geometry of the scaffold in the background emphasizing the differences between the two guys. It is so unlike the usual chaotic "street photography"-look (which too often is a failed copy of Garry Winogrand's style).

Thanks for your comments on this picture. The guy is perfect, isn't he? Oh the swagger and reckless confidence of youth. His companion, perhaps one of the older hands, could serve as a stand-in for the rest of us.

Finally, Wolfgang, thank you for your long and insightful comment on this picture and so many other pictures I have posted. You represent the best qualities of this site; both in your photos and your thoughtful observations you contribute to the success of pn. People often forget that this isn't just a place to show photographs, it's a community of photographers and communities only thrive when members are actively involved with one another.
