Kealia Beach (Best viewed Large)

vincetylor

This is two minutes from my home in Kealia, Kauai. The Hawaiian red-dirt (color is real) is famous for red-dirt tee shirts out here. These white flowers bloom only once a year and last for about one week total. I was running with my dogs when I noticed they were in bloom as well as how clean ocean conditions looked. Went home picked up the gear and came back. On a side note: There was a truck parked right in the middle of the red dirt here. The owner (laying in the sun) saw me shooting and offered to move it out of the way....how often does that happen nowadays? Your comments and opinions are always appreciated. www.hawaiianphotos.net

Hi Vincent! The composition of the picture is perfect and the orange-blue color contrast is excellent! - I think we choose good type of camera and film :) Did you use Velvia 50 or 100?

marvellous shot. a painting. strong & vibrant color remind of french impressionists. sea & sky is a tribute 2 bold van gogh strokes. congrats!

I prefer your second version. More natural colors, the clouds appear more white (instead of blue), yet still keeps the "Wow" effect. Cropping from the left side also helps because the bright area in the left center takes away from the image and it also gives a more balance in weight. Great stuff.

Great shot, the fg, mid ground, bg all have interesting elements, both versions are great. I noticed one small, very small point in the first version. On the left side half way down, a bit of sand from the background shows through the green foliage precisely at the edge. In the second shot you eliminated that. For my taste, which is of course of universal importance I like the colour sense I get of the first version but I like the second image's elimination of that bit of beach.

Hard to choose between the two. Just curious is one selling significantly more than the other. Probably too early to tell.

Great work.

Reminds me of the 'Red Sand Beach' that my husband and I found on the way to Hana on Maui. Just beautiful. Maybe we'll see that on this site soon (subtle hint). Mahalo for sharing. =)

These are very much like Joshua Trees with clusters of white blooms which last maybe two weeks in bloom (produced after rainfall) and are always found just after flood or scant rainfall in the Spring and then only. E-mail me and tell me what you charge for prints. I feel like I'm going back to Hawaii throughout your portfolio. I love Kauai, Lanai, and Maui as my favorites and The Big Island is great for getting lost on as is Kauai up in the rain forest. Love the whole portfolio. I think you are so fortunate to live there. Unfortunately being overrun by Mainlanders!
