Wonderful shot, bleak winter tones, the steam in the background attesting to the cold. Is this one in the book? It should be.

The smoke peaking out above the overpass road is just terrific icing on a already very nice cake - a touch of industrial big-city-feel, a touch of timelessness (even if the cars give the era away, I think the image is pretty timeless). Bleak, not particularly feel-good, but also not negative, down or depressing - factual, but not emotionless.

Shorter version: love it.

Thank you.  No, this is not in the book since the book is already listed on Amazon and I took this shot yesterday.  I've taken maybe 1 -3 shots since the book was published that I would have liked to include.  Maybe that's a good thing.

Down this far on Milwaukee Ave, parking was not a problem.  This is one of the few shots where I was able to park the car and actually get out on the street.  This pedestrian had already passed me by the time I got to this corner (I wanted this angle to get the steam and the taller buildings lost in mist, plus the line of the crosswalk, and the line of lights underneath the viaduct.)  Anyway, thank for the comments all, and Wouter, yes I too like the industrial big city feel.  It has a certain gritty bleakness that I have always liked, but lately I have been struggling off and on with a mild but nagging depression and perhaps this mirrors my emotions lately.

steve’s blues

in a magical street corner in Milwaukee and Hubbard
soaking in the pallet of monochrome and grey
on a cold January day,
an American photographer laments the shot just missed
in the cross hairs of Milwaukee and Hubbard
on a cold January day,
and what’s a hot blooded  photographer to do with icy winds shrinking his cock lilliputian
but still revel in every fantastic second that passes, certain the next picture will fade away
all the indignities a man endures in a cold January day in a magical street corner in Milwaukee and Hubbard
