The graininess, tonality, the flash illumination, and the slight softness make this look like a photo from the 1940s.

I have no idea how you did this, Weegee-san, but it is arresting and amazing!  A whole new oeuvre for you?  (I just wanted to use oeuvre in a sentence...  ;-)  ) Seriously, this is different and very interesting, grainy flash style or not.

It has the 1940s as Mark wrote, but also something of a 80s-gang-feel (like the first Spike Lee movies). Direct on the one side, hiding on the other - which is most intriguing.

And well, indeed a new direction (I didn't quite want to use the word oeuvre, so I came up with this one instead). Surprising photo, and a very pleasant surprise it is.
