The standard of commentary on this site is slipping; fortunately that's not the case with the images on view.

There are 2 distinct textures, the soft wave-like forms on the top, the harder rust beneath. I find myself wanting more of the bottom for balance. This would not be an issue without the crop, but you decided to snip and I have my suspicions that the original might be even more top heavy.

The upload would benefit from overall sharpening. You could have great textures - with decent sharpening - instead they're just good. The pastel colours are superb, something I might ingest were they sprinkled on top of an ice cream.

Overall you've homed in on something beautiful, but then I would not accept anything less from you.

Carl, as you know, I'm quite fond of this type of shot. Terrific colors and overall design. The salmon and baby blue make this extraordinary. I'd be interested to see what additional sharpening would do for this.

Brilliant shot Carl. My eye gets easily lost in the mesmerizing patterns you captured. Both the horizontal wave and the diagonal striations are very rich. I'm really taken by the wonderful blues/cyans seen here as well. Though not quite the same, it has a kaleidoscopic feel to it that is fascinating. Very nicely done.

I'm glad you all are enjoying this one.

This is cropped square by removing a bit off the bottom and a fair amount off the left. I don't remember what sharpening I did to this jpeg, if any. I've printed this at 11" X 11" and it looks OK to me. This portion of the shot was pretty much in full shade, so I used color balance to get rid of the blue cast and, of course, levels to increase contrast.

for a moment there i thought you had gone abstract carl ... as usual well observed natural shot ... super stuff!!

Never thought I would say a dumpster looked so beautiful. Well, this is an amazing abstract shot. Very painterly like. To me it looks like water crashing against the surf at the beach. The colors are wonderful. Excellent shot.

this image is suspicious, looks manipulated in PS. Doesnt it mr carl root? How does that sound to you? Anyways, i like your observation on capturing this fine abstract. Great Job!

I like the patterns and colours created by the rust and could spend much time looking at this. It gives me an impression of mountains with sunset baked clouds behind them. I'm sure it elicits different impressions in other viewers. I would like to see it matted, framed and hung on a wall at a big size! Technically i think it may benefit from slightly more sharpening, but i feel with this kind of photo technical matters are very subjective.

A well observed slice of the mundane, showing there is beauty everywhere around us if we look hard enough IMO.

Cheers

I think you've succeeded in finding beauty in the mundane (and probably downright ugly). The diagonals on the top collide nicely with the different textures on the bottom half. I'm perhaps just a wee bit undecided about the balance between the two major 'sections' - the dividing 'line' perhaps verges on being too centred.

A previous comment suggested that I add more to the bottom, so there's no agreement on this point except that its' placement is important. I think a crop off the right and bottom would work, but I chose this version because I liked the small blue element bottom center

This is just superb! Worthy of a gallery exhibit, for sure. I imagine crowds of people contemplating it for long periods of time. If only the rust on my old car looked as good....sigh :(

I like the dynamics in this one a lot and the colours in the top are spectacular. Comp looks good to me, but I wondered if lightening up the bottom half might be worth a try (I lowered the saturation slightly in the lower half too). Just a thought - hope you don't mind.

...seeing it online now maybe it's a bit too bright but you get the idea.

It does look better with the bottom just a bit lighter. . .

Check out the "Black Spring" in the Konica folder and tell me what you think. It's my most recent in the series.
