Thanks for your comments on this picture. Photonet seems the merest shadow of itself nowadays. There's so little vitality I'm not sure it's worth while hanging around much longer. It really is a shame that so many of the people who made this the kind of dynamic community that I looked forward to visiting each day have now vanished or nearly so. Maybe that's just the way of the world in the 21st century which for all its technological wonders seems more and more in the grip of some kind of spiritual entropy. Though it's really of no importance on a grand scale It's still rather deflating to watch my images disappear into the void and sink without a trace with little notice or comment. I don't know what happened; the energy just seemed to drain away, I guess. It appears that the travelling circus has struck its tents and disappeared over the horizon. Not much left now but the sound of a distant calliope and some programs blown by the wind. It was fun while it lasted.

Awww, Jack. You know it goes in fits and starts around here. Such is the nature of creativity and life. I feel sure it will pick up again. PN would be a worse place without you.

The things that make this shot for me are the shadow and the cone. As I said in another shot, I really like how you manage geometry.

well, I checked few of typically high frequency commented photographers (like Ruud Albers and Alf Bailey) - and it seems, there's also less activity. So, it seems, you are not alone...

While this is a disappointing development, it's not a big surprise: while PN is more a silent, (too?) thoughtful place, other website scream for attention... and get heard.
It's the same effect (on a larger scale) like when you click on "Top New Photos" here in PN: you see eye candy, quick and easy to consume, but no lasting impression or impact. True good photos (like this one, where you need to spend a few moments longer to "read", from which you might learn - which always involves some effort...) don't get the attention they'd deserve...
