mountaineer1965 0 Posted October 7, 2014 From the vantage point of The Vista House in the Columbia River Gorge you have a beautiful view (vista) of the layers of hills that make up the banks of the Columbia River. Unless you believe Hollywood as this view was used as the opening scene in Proof of Life and said to be South America :-) I was up to photograph sunrise from the view point but the wind was so strong that my large format camera was shaking so bad I knew it was pointless, but I also knew that this was a special morning. I quickly drove a little ways into the gorge and found a place where there was some protection from the wind. This was my favorite shot from that morning and I went with a panorama crop for the compositional lines and layers that are present. I would love to hear your thoughts on this image. Thanks for taking the time to view and comment, Link to comment

Larry_G1664882113 15 Posted October 8, 2014 Hi Craig, Ok, I found this image. My first reaction is that the image's impact is in its color pallete and excellent first light. I really like the panoramic presentation. Getting to this spot at sunrise had to be a mission for the day - such is a luxury of living in this part of the country and not being bound by the time restrictions of travelers like me. I like the image a lot. I might consider doing some noise reduction on the sky. I think I'd duplicate the image and experiment with opening the shadows on the darkest areas to see how more detail and separation, especially between the mountains on the left, might look. I think this would make a nice image in a photography article about capturing light. It would also present well as a calendar image. Unlike, my image, this one begs to be presented in the great color scheme you have captured and artistically presented. You have my compliments. Thanks for requesting my input. Larry Link to comment

duncanwallis 0 Posted October 15, 2014 I love the composition of the photograph. The simplicity, lines that lead the eye easily and the layers of shade that compliment the leading line of the river. I to am glad that you took the effort to drove to a place out of the wind to capture this outstanding shot Craig, very well done indeed. Regards, Duncan Link to comment
