An obscene amount of photoshopping. The skull is a superimposed stockphoto. I wanted to create an image ala shakespeare's :"Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow Creeps in this petty pace from day to day To the last syllable of recorded time,And all our yesterdays have lighted foolsThe way to dusty death. Out Out brief candle!Life is but a walking shadow, a poor playerThat struts and frets his hour upon the stage And then is heard no more. It is a taleTold by an idiot, full of sound and fury,Signifying nothing".

To Peter. No, it is a collage of many photographs which makes it many times more difficult. You see, FIRST you must start with a good photographs or three or four. You need a good photograph of clouds, a beach, a nude man with cloth blowing in the wind. Of course to pull this off, all the photographs must have the same tonality and lighting, as well as fit together to form a NEW image. Get it? It is a higher form of photography, requiring greater skills, knowledge, and imagination than a simple photograph would.

Sorry to Peter A and Frederic, but a good question to you to is, how is Lars' print NOT ART? I see this as art in every way; the more expressive an image is, as long as it evokes thought and is a way of perception unique to a person, then it is art in my opinion. Please don't put up the question of art because I believe nobody could define it, and even if somebody could, art is ever-evolving and part of the reason that we should respect it is that it is always beyond our definition, just as how spirituality is; if there are people who try to define it, they're usually people in the upper echelons of art practice who have been too regimentalized or too stuck with definition that they have forgotten what it feels like to respond to artworks straight from the gut. This is straight from the gut for me; these images do remind me a lot of my childhood, I can't say what aspect of it exactly, but thank you very much Lars. You Danish photographers are very good. And Peter and Frederic, I'd suggest you rethink your thoughts on art, before you bore yourselves to death!

I think Peter's comment is not about whether this is art, even though his tone also raises this question. His specific question is more around whether this is photography or not.

Well, this is a creation based on mixed media, not different from paintings on top of sculptures, or poetry on top of paintings. In this case it's graphic artistry on top of photograpy (the author did take the main photo). So I guess the answer to whether this is photography is 'yes and no'. The bigger question is 'Why does it matter?'

 

The era of separation of artforms dissapeared in the second half the the last century, and, even though you may like it or not, combining media and artforms is extremely common these days.

 

As far as whether this is art or not, if it has a creative component, then it is art (my own definition). Is it high art? is it wortwhile art? That is up to you. Does it stimulate your senses or your intellect? If neither, then it's just another instance (or form altogether) of art that doesn't resonate with you. We all have preferences. The best thing to do is to move on to the next item and try again. No point in puting down something that we don't get.
