So last Thursday my wife and I headed out to Tokul Creek so I could

get more shots for a "study" I'm working on that I am calling

Fluidity. I decided to stop at Snoqualmie Falls on the way home and

I'm glad I did. The weather was changing from the rain we had been

getting for the last few days and as the sun was setting this dramatic

scene started presenting itself. I knew the sky was going to be an

important element for this shot so I slapped on a 2-stop GND and got

several good shots. I love shooting HDR but there is something very

satisfying about getting it on one frame, this probably goes back to

my film days...a certain nostalgia you could say. I decided on B&W

because I believe it more greatly presents the drama of what was going

on. I would love to hear your feedback, good or bad, on this shot.

Thank you for viewing and commenting,

to everyone who took the time to comment, it really means a lot to me as it helps me determine whether my vision is a) being received b) impacting the viewer the way I intended c) creating a scene worthy of talking about.  Thanks again

I'm of two minds on this.  On one hand, the darkness hides much of the stunning details that certainly exist in this moment.  Yet, the darkness accentuates cloud details and falling water.... OK, I'll go with "great shot."

Craig,  All of these B&Ws in this folder are wonderful.  I have taken a few images of Snoqualmie Falls under midday poor conditions, never a wide angle view like this.  The wide angle captures the environment without the touristy stuff around it.  I wonder in this image alone if you have captured enough zones of gray?  This is just a question and a matter of preference.  You did a great job showing the motion of the water and the mist at the bottom, which creates much mood.  Excellent.  Thanks again for your suggestions about B&W conversions.  I use the Nik Software, Silver Efex Pro 2 for conversions right now and am pleased with it.   Best to you. Larry

A superbly presented photograph that you've rendered dramatically.  The dark tones and vignette transforms this into an image that is as much art as photograph.  Excellent... Mike

Excellent.  I like how the top of trees are a solid black.  The water fall is nice and silky and is the center of my attention.

Hi Graig

Is this the wonderland!? Sorry for ignorance, where is this?

Great shot! I like the dark tone of the photo, first because it gives a nostalgic atmosphere, second because it makes us look closely and discover all the detail of the photo, on a gradual basis.

The sky is very good, I love strong and dramatic skies.

Best Regards

José

This waterfall is between the cities of Snoqualmie and Fall City just southeast of Seattle, Washington.  It is one of the states most popular tourist attractions due to its close proximity to Seattle.  An interesting fact is it that the city, and waterfall, were used in the TV series Twin Peaks, which took place in Washington.  Thank you for your kind comments, I really appreciate the feedback.  Take care

Hi Craig, everything works here for me. I love the silky waterfall effect you achieved, the sky is stunning, and the vintage work to emphasize  the water fall. Well done IMO :)

Warmest regards,

I really enjoy this picture. I like the contrast in the sky ... It is dramatic and adds a lot to this photo! The composition is perfect, and the black and white is an excellent choice. And do not forget the falls ... "The icing on the cake"

Kind Regards,

Rosario.

i see photos like this and think BIBLICAL its not easy to get a nature shot that is technically beautiful as it is aesthetically beautiful as well,, like nature there is a fine balance and you have mastered that very well here.

It doesn't get any better than this Craig! The sky, blurred waterfall and many shades of gray make this an image of perfection. Best regards.
