kyorston 0 Posted May 18, 2001 Photo taken for an assignment. The more I look at it the more I see wrong with it. But would appreciate any comments. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted May 18, 2001 Shoulda done this, shoulda done that, blah, blah, blah.......often overlooked by the resident critics is the vast magazine market for spectacular, excellently executed illustrative pictures such as this. It's a first rate image. Link to comment
roberto_lins 0 Posted May 18, 2001 Although colors are vibrant, it's too contrasty for me. A reflector or fill-in-flash off camera could reduce the (too)dark shadows. A larger aperture (like f/4) might help to isolate the subject from the background that makes the photo lighter. It also would help to get higher shutter speeds, since you're handholding it. At last, I personally would shoot it in vertical, so you don't cut the top and bottom of the flowering. It's also aesthetically better, since the subjectis rather long than wide. Keep up the colors, they are nice! Hope it helps, Link to comment
brian_chandler 0 Posted May 18, 2001 Surely a mimosa of some sort? The flowers look like legumes, too. I'm not very happy about the framing. Seems to me that if you had the camera in exactly the same position, and simply turned it to portrait you would remove the "spare" feeling of the space on the left, and avoid chopping the ends of the flower heads off, and avoid the cramped feeling at the top. If the picture is for illustration, one thing we want to see is just how the flowers shoot off their stalk. (If you want a Big Splash of colour, more for artistic effect, I would get in closer and take just a part of the flower.) Link to comment
