Easter is a 6-month-old wild turkey rescued from an opossum attack that cost him a wing. His human companion takes him on many daily adventures with her. We met them outside a national forest ranger station, where he greets visitors. He rides in the passenger seat of her car like any animal companion. Gentle and calm, Easter represents all the positive qualities Benjamin Franklin saw in the bird he wanted to be the official symbol for the United States, instead of the bald eagle. Wild turkeys live about 5 years in the wild and about 10 years in domestic environments.
