I would say there's probably a contrast issue with your scan. The colors seem really muted. I would recommend taking it into Photoshop and playing with the levels a bit to bring out the colors.

This has too much yellow, and it also is washed out a bit. If you can change this, it would be better

I don't think it's washed out at all, I think it's more a question of the taste of the author. Most photos in the file are low key for colour and intensity. Personally, I find it very effective like this. A good one.
