I think I would have cropped this differently. I am not liking the elbow and all the dead space on left side. I like the lighting and facial expression. You can tell she believes in what the shirt says. Just my 2 cents.

Here is my attempt to fix the cropping (also required transforming her right arm so as to be less of a lead-out of the composition).  I cropped using the rule-of-thirds to get attention to her eyes.  I don't believe titles should affect the ratings of an image, but often they do.  Since the viewer cannot see clearly that she is dancing maybe a better title would be "Dancer at the Ready", "It's Her Turn to Dance", or any title that describes what the viewer sees or feels and not what she is unless we can see her dancing (full length on the stage in motion).

Thanks Micheal & Jake for your critique & suggestion on cropping improvement needed.

Thanks John for your rework.I amazed how you changed her arm position which is much better & also the cropping.  Regards John

John Webster

you did a great job about the arm. I still don't like the all the dead space on the one side.  As far as my comment about believing in what the shirt says. I didn't mean it as a insult. Her facial expression to me says she very confidant and is well aware of her looks. Again not in a bad way. When people look at a photograph we scan from left to right and go to the eyes first when it is a portrait. So in scanning from left to right once we see her in the photograph we pause. Then we will keep going because we see the black background next to her and then there is nothing. Kind of a let down. I would have framed her to the right(her Left) to act as stop if you will, also if that wasn't possible I would crop tight because she is your subject and the black background has no real meaning for the photograph. As a side note with it cropped where it is we have no idea what her lower half is about to do or standing on (dance floor). Please have a great day, This is just my long winded 2 cents.
