marshall 0 Posted September 18, 2003 This image has a clean and pleasing shape to it, as well as a nicely out of focus background. However, the flower itself seems to have no detail in the whites, which would have elevated this image. You may find that a different film will help you get better results, as well; the gold 200 isn't the top end... Enjoy. Link to comment
mononomo 0 Posted September 18, 2003 cool, nice subject I like how this is the only thing in focus, and the difference in color Link to comment
xuelun_li 0 Posted September 18, 2003 Hi Marshall, thanks for your comments. However, I am not sure how to increase the details in the whites of the flower. Do you have any better films to recommend? Thanks for your advice Link to comment
marshall 0 Posted September 30, 2003 Hm. Did you scan the negative or a print? If you scanned the print, there may actually be more detail in the highlights on the negative that you can pull out. As for other recommendations, I can really only speak to how I would do it, so your mileage may vary. That said, I'd be using slide film (probably Velvia or Velvia 100F), and spot-metering the whites, opening up from the meter reading to make them bright but not so far that they blow out all the way to white. The background would be pushed darker, but since I'd really be after the detail in the whites, I could live with that. Using a print film would give a little more latitude, and you might try Portra UC or Fuji's Superia/Reala, either of which would be an improvement over basic Gold 200. Good luck. Link to comment
