Another "sad", melancholic scene that makes us all part of it.
Perfect geometry and subtle color tones, just present enough to make it even sadder.

It's not sad to me, just wet and dreary and full of atmosphere.  The light is great and I like being able to see the traffic just above with its little bit of light as well. Jack, I like this one a lot, well done sir.

Best,

Holger

Strong geometric composition and dark color palette create ominous atmosphere. Brings back a bit a virtual world from a computer game in which even the most mundane scene has its meaning.  In these surroundings two real people look like strangers, both to this world and to each other.

Thanks for your attention to this picture. I really appreciate not just your comments but your effort to put your feelings into words. Roberto's comment parallels much of my own thinking and perhaps that's why we both spend so much time on the street. Interesting that you saw this as a "sad" picture, Michail. When you notice how disconnected we seem to be from each other most of the time it's not surprising. With our advanced communication technology we have, ironically, become even more isolated from one another. We no longer seem to live in the moment but increasingly in some virtual reality or enclosed in our own thought bubbles. Holger, I kind of agree with you on the dreariness though I really like how the tones played out in this picture, the brief flashes of subdued color against a subdued background. Your suggestion about the light on the cars is a good one, I think. Finally, Wieslaw, it's a treat to have you back posting pictures and commenting again. Your summation couldn't have more perfectly encapsulated my own thinking.

An impressive work, Jack. Taken in right time and moment that gives an excellent composition to the scene and to the details around.

Hi Jack,

A very enjoyable image, you do have a knack for them...

There's quite a lot going on with this, a fortuitous moment to a photographer on the watch. Some would like to crop the top down to hide the cars on the left, but then you would lose that "other" layer to the image, which I for one enjoy.

Apologies I haven't been around for a while. I miss the discussion, but needed to exile myself from others opinions on my work for a little while. Totally for developmental reasons, not through negative experience or such.

Hope all is well. From browsing your recent stuff, it looks like you are ;)

Two blasts from the past. What a treat receiving a visit from some of the old timers again, two men who I always considered giants among photographers and who had such an effect on me. Nice to see you're still around (even if briefly in Drew's case) .

Drew, I often wondered what became of you. I stick around because I'm already quite isolated here in Japan, not a lot of stimulation to keep the creative juices flowing, so here I am and here I shall probably remain. I'd love to see some of your latest work whether on pn or on your personal site. Let me know where I can view your photographs. I always though you had some of the strongest stuff back when you were posting here. If you feel like it, send me an e-mail and let me know what you've been up to. Regards, Jack

Very kind words, Jack. Thank you...I think you are one of the few people that those words would actually mean anything to me as a photographer.

I will most certainly email you for a catchup, it might just take me a few days....modern life an all. I look forward to it :)
