Fledgling Hummingbird

I liked this image for the subject, but the background was very

distracting. So I liberally blurred and darkened the area surrounding

the nest. Have a look and let me know what you think. I think it's

maybe a bit overdone, but I had some pretty good feedback on an image

of a passion flower that I applied the same technique to for the same

reason. I'm curious as to what popular opinion is on this amount of

post processing.

Here's what it started out like.

I don't see anything wrong with the darkened posting, it looks like the nest is just located in a sun spot.  However, after seeing the original I think an effect somewhere in the middle would work well. 

I hope you don't mind, being a visual person I've prepared an example of my thoughts.

I like how you darkened the background, Siegfried.  You really focus on the nest and the baby.  How lucky you are to find a nest!

We all should have such a 'snug' place to rest in. You were fortunate as Janine said to find a nest. I like the darkened background. Very nice detail in the nest and wee bird.

Thanks for commenting. Yeah, I got lucky. Although these aren't that rare here, as I've often found abandoned nests.
