Hornet Eating a Pear

This image is a composite of two in an effort to increase DOF.

Since macros are about details, I encourage viewing at the larger size.

The detail on the head is incredible, and even the lighting on the antennae is perfectly balanced. Superb color vibrancy. What's that orange thing in the foreground on the lower right hand corner? Part of the pear? Just curious really.

On another note, couldn't you get him to pose for you with a little pear juice dribbling off his chin? (just kidding!) Your work is just so good that it's hard to find something to add to it.

This one is really incredibly perfect - I like it very much. And although the hornet has no "eyes", one can see that this fruit is delicious!! ;) Deserves 7/6

This is a amazing shot. Tell me how could you get the hornet posing for you? I immagine that It would take enough time to frame and focus on such a subject. But no, you manage to take two or more shots so you could improve the debth of field.

GREAT!

My rating on this image is as much for composition, colour and technique as it is for the bravery required to stick a lens in the face of a dude like this one.

Well done, sir. What's next... rattlesnakes and scorpions? :)

The technical excellence of your macro's continues to astound me. This almost looks like a friendly face with some character.

Mark, thanks for sharing this great shot.

Imagine a world where these creatures are as big as us! At their size now, they are beautiful. Grow to our size and they would be down right scary! Wonderful portrait of a handsome (or pretty) bug.
