louis tsai 0 Posted September 9, 2003 I compliment you on the original idea and the technical execution. It is a pleasing and thought provoking photo. I presume the map is digitally ovelayed later on?Nice work, keep it up! Link to comment
duncan_trebilcock 0 Posted September 10, 2003 A very original image. It would have been nice to have seen the figure from a slightly higher viewpoint, looking more "flopped", perhaps with arms outstretched. Also. the light area, top right, distracts a little. The, lighting, however, is good, and the montage is effective and not in the least heavy handed. Overall I like this a lot. Link to comment
chris russ 0 Posted September 10, 2003 Not only do I like the idea, but I especially like the execution. The placement of the river along the sole of the foot on the left is fantastic. 7/7 Link to comment
ben couvillion 0 Posted September 10, 2003 i really appreciate all your comments. i used a few photoshop techniques to overlay this mississippi map onto my wifes feet (she grew up there) - it was a fun image to work on. thanks again. Link to comment
laheist 0 Posted September 11, 2003 reminds me of the "foot map" that acupunturists use to tell which part of your foot corresponds to the spleen, etc. Link to comment
margaret_s. 0 Posted September 11, 2003 Very original and creative! Well done! I might blur the comforter cover in PS just so it doesn't compete with the feet. It's more obvious on the left foot. Link to comment
andrew_harto 0 Posted September 11, 2003 There is an Asian proverb that goes something like "The world is under a mother's/woman's feet." If the pic shows more of the person-- especially if the person is a female -- then the proverb would go very well with the image. A thought provoking picture! Link to comment
andreas_weber1 0 Posted September 11, 2003 Great idea!! Could be improved IMO by placing the feet on a more rustic-style or a simpler bed! But still very good!! 6/7 Link to comment
guillermo_alvarez 0 Posted September 11, 2003 Just GREAT. I love manipulated pictures when you can really tell they are. That's when PS is used as a media to express ideas and feelings, and not just to make up for a bad technique. Link to comment
hashim a 0 Posted September 12, 2003 Ben, You said *it was a fun image to work on.* It's a fun image to look at too! Really nice. Can you tell us a little about the inspiration or how the photo and concept came to be? Thanks Link to comment
ben couvillion 0 Posted September 12, 2003 but thanks again for all the great comments - I never thought this image would be so well recieved! I used a close-up lens on my old rolleiflex to take the photo (i'm a big fan of natural/window lighting) and while i was looking at the scan it just sort of hit me - all the lines of the foot look similar to a topographic map's contour lines outlining the changes in elevation. (it's been a while since i've had geography) so, i found an old map of Mississippi ( as i said before, that's where my wife grew up) and decided to overlay it - almost tatooing it onto her feet. After i did the color version i decided to print a large black and white one, it's a little more subtle, but has the same effect. thanks again everyone. ben Link to comment
