Guest Guest Posted September 11, 2003 Hi Gareth, No way do you deserve a ratings below 4. This is a very nice shot, you did well to get all the lines leading into his expression. Tony Link to comment
gareth_harper 0 Posted September 12, 2003 Thanks Tony, when I took the shot this boy just seemed to be jumping right out of the centre of the crowd. Could have printed it a wee bit better but I didn't have much time. I sometimes wonder about the ratings, this is after all a press picture, but then again it's always intesting to know what others think. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted September 12, 2003 Hi Gareth, Yep know what to mean. I've actually got around to putting a bit in my biography to say why I like reportage, but most people who give ratings wouldn't even consider trying it LOL. I try to compare my shots with those that are published and interestingly my first roll of the Totnes Peace March was almost identical. But there again the local press photographer did climb up next to me and we helped each other get up walls for the first 1/2 hour. Keep em coming & I'll get around to some decent shots to post soon. Regards ... Tony Link to comment
elli_wagner 0 Posted September 12, 2003 some people prefer staged and made up pictures to really documented or snapshots out of live, unstaged, unmanipuleted with. I love the last, lives documentation, as I see it and how it really does look! I love the expression, that little person loves to read about fantasie and makes up his little Hogwarts at home, but here, he maybe shows what his parents thaught him. Its really interesting! gareth_harper 0 Posted September 15, 2003 Thanks for the kind comments. Elli, there was loads of children at the demo and many of them from Scotland's ethnic minorities. Children were to a large degree the focus of the day. On both sides of that fence there are children, the young lad in the photo is free, the kids on the other side are not. This young chap seemed to fully understand how wrong that is. Thanks for your very kind rating, I think this is one that I will return to print again, there is scope for a little improvement. matt_l.1 0 Posted September 19, 2003 I think this is an in-between crop - on one hand you've focused in on that boy, rightfully so, but you leave a lot of space around, including the horribly annoying cut off sign on the left. I'd like to see either more of that sign and the one the boy's holding or focus much closer on the boy. Great capture of the kid, but the composition holds a lot back. Link to comment
gareth_harper 0 Posted September 26, 2003 It's pretty much a full frame print Matt. As a worldwide picture maybe it is difficult to understand but here in Scotland it does the job. I do have another where I closed in on the boy's face, if I get a chance I'll print it too. Big back log of stuff to work on at the mo, plus 25 rolls of unprocessed stuff too. Link to comment
