Very nice lighting. The facial tones turned out really well considering the backlighting. Nice job!

I took some pictures of Sam Roberts in Newfoundland on the weekend with my new Canon 10D. I'll post them in a couple of days if you'd like to have a look.

Nice work with Chart Magazine too...

I was lucky to get this shot, not a very good venue to shoot in here in T.O. Lee's Palace.

I'd like to see some of your work. You got the 10d eh? Don't you fell like you are cheating a bit when shooting a live show, or something from the live experience is lost ? I know the instant gratification is nice , but I really love the anticipation of developing my film to see if I got "the shot"...plus I notice with the guys shooting digital at the same shows Im shooting seem to really over shoot, like 150 frames per song!( I have to admit my opinion is alter due to my jelousy toward fancy new equipment that I can't afford, and will most likely join the digital game when I can)

Have you ever sent any of your work off to Chart?

My old camera was a Nikon EM (circa 1977), so anything from this decade would be quite the improvement. The time had come to buy something new, and after weighing out the film and processing costs over time, I decided to go digital. Plus a sudden influx of wedding gift money convinced my soon-to-be wife that it was "necessary".

But make no mistake, I have turned off the "auto display" that shows you every image right after you shoot. :) I think that too many people forget about metering and composing properly when they can just fire away. I am trying to work on my technique, so I am pretending that I don't have as many features at my fingertips!

I haven't sent anything to Chart yet (because a lot of my 1977 SLR era shots aren't top-notch), but I have considered it. I am currently trying to get access to the shows at MacEwan Hall here in Calgary, where a lot of the pre-hockey arena bands play. With any luck I should be able to shoot a couple of shows a week if my schedule permits it.

Now if I could just convince my wife that a 70-200 is "necessary". :)

Yah you really need a 70-200 2.8 if you want to shoot shows, 90% of my keeprers are with that lens...if you need a contact at Chart I can give you email adress for the Art director.

Hopefully the venue you are trying to get passes for isn't a house of Blues venue, they tend to be really sticky about giving out passes for photographers.

It is kewl that you are sticking with traditional methods to get the shots, 'cuz I agree that people are not working like I am to get the perfect shot, they are just shooting like its going out of style.

tip for Chart - if you can get a good shot on a Fri, Sat , Sun send it in before Monday morning , getting photo of the week ensure getting more gigs

Hey Thom - I sent you an email to the address in the photo.net directory. I figured it would be easier than using the critique forum to chit chat. Let me know if you got it or if you want me to sent it to a different address.
