Jack McRitchie 151 Posted February 4, 2014 Simple and effective, composing the few elements here into a harmonious whole. The three figures remind me of color-coded penguins. Very nice work indeed.
LenMarriott 9 Posted February 4, 2014 The light was due to an overcast & snowy sky and the DOF was thanks to the great inherent DOF from those P&S cameras. But I'll take the credit\heat for the composition. :-) Thanks for your input. Best, LM.
LenMarriott 9 Posted February 4, 2014 I think they were fatigued from the cold festivities & were probably heading for a warm coffee shop. About this time I was ready to follow them. :-) The splash of red colour was the only thing keeping me from converting this mostly monochrome scene. In reality, a grab shot. Luck is good! Best, LM.
hstelljes 41 Posted February 4, 2014 Hi Len, Ok maybe luck played a small role, but lets give you credit for making the most of a minimal amount of material to work with and coming up with a well composed and interesting shot. I like Jacks' penguin reference also. Take care Len.BR,Holger
LenMarriott 9 Posted February 5, 2014 Yah, I love Jack's take on this one. I knew this one was worth taking as I watched it unfold. Just didn't realize how much I would like it. Kind of grows on me. Hidden by the snowbanks, and covered in ice & snow anyway, is Kempenfelt Bay, Barrie, ON. Thanks for taking the time. Best, LM.
charo 3 Posted February 5, 2014 Very good eye, Len. I like the minimalist feeling of this picture. The red jacket gives it an almost surreal touch. Nice work!!!Regards,Rosario.
LenMarriott 9 Posted February 5, 2014 The general lack of colour throughout this shot could give the impression that the red coat was a photoshop effort. I'm not that skilled! :-) Presented as shot with only a bit of cropping and a tad of sharpening. Unless you are living in the mountains my guess is that this is not a common scene in your country? I see beaches to die for in your portfolio. Want to trade for a while? :-) Thanks for your most welcome visit. Best, LM.
charo 3 Posted February 5, 2014 You are right, Len. I live on the coast, where it never snows, but we can find it in the mountains, over 4,000 meters high (14,000 feet) and about 5 hours driving to the Andes. Yes, I would love to trade for a while. :)Regards,Rosario.
LenMarriott 9 Posted February 5, 2014 Just kidding of course. It's the middle of a very cold and snowy winter here. Depression sets in and we all yearn for warmer climes. A five hour drive to see snow sounds appealing but at 14,000 feet simply breathing might be a chore. More beach scenes please. :-) Best, LM.
LenMarriott 9 Posted February 13, 2014 Thanks for stopping by. As this scene unfolded it was plain to me that it was worth the effort for a frame or two. I like the high key effect now that I am no longer standing out in the freezing weather. :-) Best, LM.
thadley 72 Posted February 14, 2014 My area is expecting 30 cm of snow in the next 24 hours. Maybe I will get a similar shot (probably not as good as this). All the best on a superb image.
LenMarriott 9 Posted February 14, 2014 If you like snow photos then this has been your kind of winter. I was pressured into leaving my nice comfy couch that day. In retrospect perhaps it was more of a blessing than a chore. Too cold that day to be toting around my D5100, I opted instead for the trusty old pocket sized Canon A540. Best, LM.
Not Here 93 Posted February 15, 2014 So this is what real snow looks like ;-). I haven't read all the comments above but I like the minimalistic elements, well, except for the red coat and it makes the scene and is a visual magnet... Mike
LenMarriott 9 Posted February 15, 2014 Yah, we have tons of the stuff. Can't wait for the end to this long & frosty winter. If it weren't for the red coat I might as well have presented this one in B&W. This was my reward for not being a grouchy old couch potato that day. Kinda glad I went now. Best, LM.
LenMarriott 9 Posted March 13, 2014 Your constructive comment\critique will be gratefully received. LM.
LenMarriott 9 Posted March 13, 2014 Done on the fly in sub zero temps with a trusty P&S. Luck was a very large factor. Thanks for your visit & comment. Best, LM.
LenMarriott 9 Posted March 14, 2014 Good of you to take the time. Thanks for your visit and your thoughts. Best, LM.
LenMarriott 9 Posted March 14, 2014 I'm happy it resonates with you. One of those times that comes together in an instant. Great reward for little effort. Best, LM.
LenMarriott 9 Posted March 23, 2014 Thanks for the vote of confidence. You can add 'so quickly' and 'so lucky' to your list of descriptions. :-) Geeze, it was a cold day! Best, LM.
