museebfoto 2 Posted February 1, 2014 Hi LenYou have mastered the square format in a subconscious from using medium format camera... I can not imagine any composition for this scene more perfect than what you have made. Sharpness and gray tonality are in a high degree of proficiency too. best regards
LenMarriott 9 Posted February 1, 2014 Museeb, in truth a background in MF (square) likely did influence my decision to crop this one square. I did try other crops but this one prevailed. At the time of year this was taken the scene takes on an overall dun colour, drab and flat. Thus the conversion to B&W with a bit of contrast adjustment to boot. I was with friend and PN contributor WJ (Bill) Gibson who also has a series of shots taken at this location. Thanks for your interest. Best, LM.
LenMarriott 9 Posted February 1, 2014 Your constructive comment\critique will be gratefully received. LM.
Not Here 93 Posted February 1, 2014 I'll vote with Museeb! I particularly like the tones, lines and superb depth you've presented. Excellent work... Mike
kathyb 86 Posted February 2, 2014 B x W was the perfect choice to emphasize all of the interesting detail and texture. Nice work!
LenMarriott 9 Posted February 2, 2014 Yah, Museeb is OK. This one was somewhat akin to making lemonade from a lemon. The original file is very unimpressive due to the factors I stated previously. Took me a while to dig out the gold. :-) Best, LM.
LenMarriott 9 Posted February 2, 2014 So good to hear from you again. Your visits are most appreciated. Thanks for your vote of approval. Sometimes it takes a while to flesh out what made you pause in the first place. We don't always get it right first time, and in the camera. Best, LM.
LenMarriott 9 Posted February 2, 2014 Yes, B&W was the way to go here. No colours to speak of anyway. The reflections and the fine details are what's important in this shot. Thanks for taking the time. Best, LM.
hstelljes 41 Posted February 4, 2014 Hi Len, Great job on presentation and the b&w tones as previously stated are spot on. A very pleasant scene as well. Take care.Best Regards,Holger
LenMarriott 9 Posted February 4, 2014 In my opinion, conversion to B&W saved this one from the trash bin. Lesson: if it doesn't work for you in colour then convert. It might then be OK. Thanks for your input. Best, LM.
greg mccracken 13 Posted February 4, 2014 Nice work, Len! I like the feel of this black and white. The reflection of the foreground tree on the left is a nice counter balance to the larger tree further down on the right. It makes me want to be there.
LenMarriott 9 Posted February 5, 2014 You might remember this spot. We were there 1st AM (sunrise) 10 years ago when it was -27F and my Bronica SQ Ai batteries froze up. Just now getting feeling back into my fingers. :-) No best time to visit this location. One always gets different photos no matter the season. Always worth a visit in my estimation. Thanks for your visit. Best, LM.
greg mccracken 13 Posted February 6, 2014 I did wonder if it was the same spot that we shot in winter. Thanks for the clarification.
