root 0 Posted August 29, 2003 Hmmm . . . . . It's either a good shot or an interesting idea depending on whether or not the lower clouds are painted on the brick or applied in PS. Details? Link to comment
brad_hayden 0 Posted August 29, 2003 Way to sieze an opportunity. Also glad to see a fellow F717 user on the site! Link to comment
toddlaffler 0 Posted August 29, 2003 I was waiting to see if someone would ask if this was digitally enhanced in any way, and then Carl did. So I will say that the sky at the top was added (the original was grey and flat) also I applied the clouds to the wall as well. The wall was that deep blue color but I superimposed another cloud picture I had taken over it and then applied a PS filter to make it look more "painted". I just liked the way it came out and wanted to see if my handy work was obvious to anyone. So there ya go. Do you think knowing this information diminishes the photograph now? WOuld be curious to hear what you think. Thanks for looking. Link to comment
root 0 Posted August 30, 2003 I appreciate your candor. I don't want to get into the old PS rant, but will say instead that based on so many comments on this site I know that some people make a distinction and some don't. What I've always found strange is that some people would see something like this and exclaim what a great capture it was, as if it never occurred to them that the image came from your fertile imagination rather than a capture. What's even stranger is when they then find it's a composite, they'll say, "oh, I like it anyway", forgetting that the capture was what impressed them in the first place. I think you've used your imagination and have showed some restraint in your color choices to create a plausible image. I wasn't at all sure. I will say that given that you had comntrol over the individual elements in the composition, I think including more clouds in the top section with a line rising up from the right would balance the wall clouds where the line rises up from the left. nomade 1 Posted August 31, 2003 Do you think knowing this information diminishes the photograph now? WOuld be curious to hear what you think. In some way, yes. But I think my little frustration comes not for the end result itself (after all that is what really matters), but more from the certainty that such an image would have require a clever eye behind the viewfinder if really shot. That is, my admiration would have been for the photographer, not the image itself. This is more or less what Carl stated about people admiring a capture that is not.My first approach to this image was curiosity more than aesthetical attraction to the image itself. Its a valid attempt. But I personal like more the photocomposites when constructing an unreal subject making it looks like real, that usually requires excellent technical skills and a preconcept. Link to comment
theycallmetak 0 Posted November 24, 2003 It's a wonderful shot, and I love how you got the colors just right on the wall to look like paint. Maybea little more headroom (sky) at the top and a little less of the green grass in front imho. Very nice work though. I think I like the idea of completely untouched photos, even going so far as to use available light whenever I possibly can (maybe I need a speedlight iso built in flash), but as I'm still learning PS, I can definitely appreciate a well manipulated photo. Peace. Link to comment
