thadley 72 Posted November 26, 2013 Powerful red colors. This year here in Montreal and the south shore the sumac was not very colorful. This is very good.
LenMarriott 9 Posted November 26, 2013 What I heard when I was looking to photograph the fall colours, " Take me, take me". :-) So I did! Thanks for your visit. Best, LM.
LenMarriott 9 Posted November 26, 2013 Your visit is most welcome! Yah, seems to go like that some years in different locations. You & I are not that far apart geographically so go figure. These autumn shots validated my recent purchase of a D5100. So far, no regrets. Best, LM.
thadley 72 Posted November 27, 2013 Congrats on the new 5100. I am not familiar with this model but I have heard very good things about the 7100. When they announced the d800 I thought this would be the replacement for my D300 which is very well utilized. Perhaps over the Christmas season I will start some serious research since I have no big need as a non-professional. Now that I am seeing this image for a 2nd time, I am having some thoughts of a technical nature. My experience with nikon sensors (D70 and D300) is that the reds tend to go into overload mode. Please try the following and see if anything works for you - go into color balance and start moving the red/green slider slowly and minutely towards more green (less red) and see if it improves the perceptual detail in the central leaves and at the same time giving a more green to the barely-green portions on the sumac leaves and thus giving more of a visual (red/green) contrast to the image. For what it is worth.
thadley 72 Posted November 27, 2013 I decided to try it my self moving it towards green with a -65. Of course it comes down to tastes.
LenMarriott 9 Posted November 27, 2013 Thanks for going the extra mile on this image. And yah, there's lots of photoshop wiggle room to suit all tastes. I have noticed the tendency for the D5100 to over saturate reds but, still being on the toe of the learning curve for this camera, I hadn't fully realized it was the camera's doing until you pointed that out. Now that I think of it you are likely right though it seems to render flesh tones accurately. Perhaps a tweaking of the camera settings is in order. Stay tuned while I check that out. Best, LM.
Pierre Dumas 498 Posted December 7, 2013 Vivid colors of the autumn, the autumn is most colorful season olf the year, although some might not find it right! Well done, Len! Best regards PDE
LenMarriott 9 Posted December 7, 2013 Of all the seasons I think I like fall best. Lot's of deep rich vibrant colours. Thanks for stopping by. Best, LM.
