Driving home after a pretty fruitless night time outing to St Helens

(wet and windy) decided to grab this one of the NHS Centre. Needed

a little work but I quite like the result. But as always there's that

nagging little voice saying "It's okay but..." which is where you come

in. Kindly worded constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Graham,

An excellent blend of a well shot  technical accomplishment with an Artistic flare in this B&W presentation.

I noted:  a 31 mm lens was used at F/2 in the EXIF readout. However, there are no 31 mm F/2 lens available. Perhaps you used a zoom setting of 31 mm at F/2.8 ? I have seen the EXIF report in many PN members Technical data area be incorrect due to a "rounding off " of the true f-stop employed.

Again, an attractive image of this fine structure.

Best Regards, Mike

The thumbnail caught my attention because it is a fine attractive image! I like everything about it (details, tones, light, reflexions on the wet road, composition, ...) with 2 exceptions:

- it is a matter of taste but the sky looks really fake in my opinion. Or is this the result of a long exposure (I don't understand what 10/25 sec in the exif means)?

- distortion (especially on the right side of the image) could have been corrected

Well worth a 6 though.

Regards,

Alain

Thanks for the comments -

Pierre I took this with my Nikkor 24-70 (apparently at 31mm!)

And I think it most likely I shot at f/2.8 as it was dark, windy and rainy

And I wanted to keep the exposure time down to prevent the wind from moving the tripod too much.

Alain - many thanks for your very kind comments.

The sky was fully overcast with heavy rainclouds

Illuminated by orange sodium lights which are our normal

Form of street lighting in this part of the world.

The post processing is done in Photomatix and the

Sky texture is a by-product of how the software processes

The cloud/colour combination. Personally it quite

Like it - I think it has a Spielbergesque quality,

But I understand what you mean when you

Say it looks fake. Thanks again for taking the time to

Comment.

Graham - This is IMO a striking image. The details, contrast, tones, light, reflections on the wet road are eye catching. One thought for you to consider - the image does not seem to have a striking single subject. It shows a nice street scene in general as opposed to a central single strong subject. I tend to be more drawn to the single strong subject compositions. Just my taste. 6/7.

This image will draw me to your portfolio to see what else you have done. Look forward to seeing more of your art.

Yes it's a striking image which I prefer in comparision with the  previous two! There is more sharpness in the details and the tones are better.A very good work!Regards.
