Note: Shot through a dark blue filter (don't recall which one)

January 1, 2009 — I just uploaded a replacement to the original I've had posted here since 2003. Up until now, the image was unmanipulated, but this replacement includes some very minor enhancements, so minor that you would only see them by comparing the two side-by-side. But, I did play.

The irony here is that the photo was manipulated from the very beginning, as it was manipulated in the camera during exposure, via filtration.

It was just moment before sunrise, and a low fog covered the lake. I could clearly see the mountains on the opposite side, but because the fog reflected the blue of the sky, it was a simple job of losing everything beyond the boat.

This was shot in 1977 or 1978.

Shot very close to dawn. Except for some brightness and contrast adjustments, most

of the background was eliminated with the blue filter.

This is an extraordinary image. Very pleasing. Very original. I also feel that your frames are among the best I've seen -- I shall attempt to copy the design in Photoshop. Thank you!

Michael/Michael/Yoshi: thank you for the kind words. If you know your way around Photoshop, you'll have no problem creating frames. I set up a script (i.e., actions) so that once I've resized the image for the site, PS adds the frame. My digital frames are virtually identical to how I frame actual prints. My personal belief is that a frame should not add any color. I realize that many people add colored matts to tie in with the image, but I feel that simply draws attention away from the photo.

Lar, this is just excellent!! I cannot tell you a singe thing to make this shot better. Maybe to experiment with a sepia toned version or some other color toning (I would still come back to this as my favorite) but all in all the line, composure, exposure/contrast, framing et al is just exquisite. Reminds me of the work by an Irish Photographer from Kinsale, IR named Giles Norman. Nice work, Brad

Art is a hard word to describe. Everyone has there own perception as to what art is. In my eyes, this is fine art. Very clean and simple. Nothing stands out as distracting. This most certainly is a beautiful piece of art.

Thank you, you're all very kind. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time with the right filter.
