alfbailey 6 Posted September 30, 2013 Great action shot! Perfectly posed above the jump and great clarity and sharpness, even the wording on the "pipe system" jump is clearly legible.Good range of |B & W tones too, did you use the camera in B & W mode or covert the colour image afterwards in PP?Looks like you could add another couple of rails to that jump and he would still clear it! Compliments & Best Regards Alf
LenMarriott 9 Posted September 30, 2013 Alf, I'm no dog lover (but most certainly not a dog hater) and attended this Bark Fest at the invitation of fellow PN member Vlad Khodski. Check out his portfolio when he's had a chance to post his shots of this event. Gave me a chance to try out my new D5100. This is one of the shots I didn't screw up too badly. :-( Still on the toe of the learning curve. I was lucky to get a position where I could get some decent angles. This young dog cleared the next bar placed in it's path but knocked the next bar down as it tried for a new personal best record. The original was in colour but I liked the graphics when converted to B&W, dog and bars being of similar tones. Always get a lift when I hear from you. Thanks for that. Best, LM.
myattphotoandfotoart39 1 Posted October 1, 2013 bw for sure. Great tones. Makes me think of Gateway Computers.
LenMarriott 9 Posted October 1, 2013 Good to hear from you again. Hope you are getting around OK now. Gateway computers............B&W packaging...........sure! But the sounds here were 'arf, arf' instead of 'moo'. :-) Thanks for the validation. Best, LM.
Vlado 0 Posted October 2, 2013 Len, it's nice to see this shot on photo.net! Strong foreground with horizontal poles and these diagonal b/w painting adds even more dynamics to the image! Regards, Vlad.
LenMarriott 9 Posted October 2, 2013 Thanks for your observations. Looking forward to any you took at this event. Was fun. Best, LM.
pnital 36 Posted October 11, 2013 This is such a great timing! I don't know why ,but the dog's form reminds me somehow a human child in his try of jumping play...;-)) I think it is because of the form of his FG leg...(is it a wild imagination ...?...) This is a very beautiful B/W lighted composition ! (sorry for my long pause, Len, I was not feeling well, as well as very busy with two great projects.... not an easy situation...;-))
LenMarriott 9 Posted October 11, 2013 Always a treat to get a visit from you. I feel that this was the best of a small number of frames. I had the new camera set to 'continuous' shooting and this one was my favourite. I hadn't thought of the dog's body language before you mentioned the positioning of his paws. Curious! I wonder why that is. Perhaps any dog experts viewing this shot can answer that question. For me, presenting this one in B&W was a no-brainer. (B&W dog & B&W stripes!) Go figure! :-) Thanks for your thoughts. Take life as easy as you can for a while, at least until you've fully recovered. Best, LM.
w-j-li 0 Posted October 29, 2013 Len,You always do the best of the job. This one is very good with the contract. Just a right capture of the moment. Thanks a lot for your warm encouragement. Best Regards,
LenMarriott 9 Posted October 29, 2013 Thanks for the validation. As I've said before, in this case luck had a lot to do with this capture as I was using a new camera & I wasn't sure if my settings were optimum. In this case things seem to have fallen into place nicely. Always good to get your take on these humble offerings. Best, LM.
LenMarriott 9 Posted November 25, 2013 Thanks for taking the time to view & comment on this one. Best, LM.
LenMarriott 9 Posted February 24, 2014 Your constructive comment\critique will be gratefully received. LM.
phillips 0 Posted February 25, 2014 Wonderful action shot and very nice composition. As someone at the beginning of doing action photography, I appreciate the challenge of "hitting" this kind of shot. Congratulations, Phil
LenMarriott 9 Posted February 25, 2014 Thanks for your contribution. I was using a new D5100 camera and was still unfamiliar with it's full operation. That I managed a sharp action shot was at least 50% luck. :-) I think I focused on the rails and released the shutter when I thought the time was right. Today I would use AF-C, 3D, and continuous burst . New to digital, I still find it hard to keep the release button on half press after I've chosen my subject. Probably why I still have so many out of focus photos. :-( Best, LM.
