dwaugh 0 Posted September 21, 2013 This photo was taken "blind" with a dead rear LCD screen sometimeafter midnight 17 miles into the backcountry of the North Cascades ona moonless night. The orange glow is likely from distant city light, showing up with the long exposure. Light pollution is visible far awayin many cases. Camera settings were 4000 ISO, F4, 30 seconds at 10mm.All comments and critiques welcome. Link to comment
mike_palermiti 0 Posted September 21, 2013 Hi David,Good work with the 10 mm lens at F/4 , ISO 4000. The 30 second exposure was short enough not to reveal the Earth's rotation which would have introduced star trailing.Based upon my experience with typical night sky colors and your description of distant light pollution, I adjusted the color balance and levels to show off you fine work a bit more.Best Regards, Mike Link to comment
MichaelChang 12 Posted September 21, 2013 Very nice, David, especially for a blind shot. I bet you could have exposed a bit longer, perhaps even twice as long before trailing became a problem. It might have been interesting to stack multiple short exposures with the star's rotation aligned in software and the foreground treated separately. Link to comment
