There are 2 things in my humble opinion can improve this image:

1. Crop the image, the bird is too much centered, you can cut like I did and it gives more space to imagine what the bird is looking at and gives a sensation of space
2. The second thing is that the background looks too much forced for my taste, I don’t know if you altered it but it’s the impression I got (if you didn’t sometime happens with the DOF and the lens) I recommend you to close more the diaphragm to blur more the background.

Albert, thanks for your critique. The effect is due to the lens (the branch is actually in front of the bird)

Beautiful image Hem. I love a good capture of a Red Tailed Hawk and this is beautiful! Lovely color, detail and I can't get over the 'eye'!!! Well done!
