Some experts would tell you should have use the full open lens, you on the other hand used the f/11 and got all that matters on this picture razor sharp and in the same time kept the background nicely out of focus, Ian! Well done, my friend!

Best regards

Hi Ian,

This is a very nice, aesthetically pleasing shot of this butterfly.

As for Pierre's reference to experts:I do know lens and cameras better than most people in the world, and it is true that using a wide aperture setting does produce better imaging results to a point.

Unfortunately, the Canon 180 mm macro is limited when  compared to its smaller 50 mm F/2.5 compact macro and the 100 mm F/2.8 macro offerings. There still remains more information that can be derived from this lens and any "true" macro design when it is shot wide open or near that setting. This is FACT. I have tested every true macro lens in the world , including many that are not even available to the public or professional photographers , and the fact remains the same.

Best Regards my friend, Mike
