I found what I thought was a predatory assassin bug feeding off of

some flowers. Strange behavior I thought, but after spending some time

trying to identify it, I found it belongs to a related nectar-feeding

group of bugs called leaf-footed bugs, most have a leaf like appendage

on their back legs. this genus though has the "leaf" on it's antennae.

I think I narrowed it down to what species it might be, but if anyone

more knowledgeable can confirm or correct my ID I'd appreciate it.

And from a photography point of view, does the insect stand out

enough? I'm undecided on weather I should have masked off the insect

and done some work on it or the background to make it more visible.

Siegfried, this is an excellent macro image, very well chosen exposure to have this selective focus, light on flower and dark green bg creates a nice effect, main subject is well seen.

Thanks for commenting. I'm glad you like the image. The somewhat dark image was kind of necessary in order to avoid blowing out the light flowers, but it does seem to be that I prefer my images on the somewhat dark side.

As far as this being a stink bug, I'm pretty sure it isn't. It's more slender and has far more developed antennae. But you comment made me realize that a second image is needed to get a better idea of the shape of the insect. So I'm attaching a second image here to give a view from a different angle.

Speaking of stink bugs though, I got some images of a red-margined stink bug the same day I captured these images. Maybe I'll get around to posting one this week.

Hello, I don't know what the insect is but I agree with Radu in that this is a very good image. Good detail and in my opinion the lighting does it justice. Nice work.

Sincerely,

Holger
