I'm having a problem finding a motivation for the image other than "I was there". There are several elements in this picture that could be the subject, but none is obvious: The prison wall on the right seems to function only to support the bridge which is cropped. The gondolas are near an interesting palace wall, but are too far away to see any detail. Since the light is flat, it doesn't help direct the eye.

Perhaps playing around with this in black and white with an emphasis on texture could produce more impact.  You should also try to sharpen the image.

I went through the thumbnail of this image several times, not knowing what to say. Then I finally opened and found a very nice prospective. Also, it is somehow intriguing the good choice you have made to desaturate the walls in the channel and leave color in the background, producing an original effect. The more I look at it, the more original it seems, setting it apart from the average tourist-like picture. Well done.
