AmyHelmick 0 Posted August 3, 2013 I want to thank my friend and artist Dana Shavin for the use of her title: Woman as Moon. This also is the title of her piece, pictured on the top of the cabinet in this photo. Link to comment

Jack McRitchie 150 Posted August 4, 2013 Classic photography with admirable tone (I'm a big fan of tone). The composition (like the title) hints at a story and is full of objects that seem like clues or keys to the meaning. The fogged mirror is a particularly intriguing touch. But in the end the picture provides no ready answers to the questions it raises which is as it should be. Photos are an entry point to our own sense of meaning, not to anyone else's, including the photographer's. In that regard, the pictures succeeds very well. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted August 4, 2013 I am dumb (surely I am)but where's Dana's work ?!Brilliant harmonica mirror.Nice Bonnie and Clyde mood. However the power plug is anachronistic."Invitation a la penetration" would be a better title for me: plug here or there...I told you I am dumb.:)Congrats ! charles_brennan 0 Posted August 6, 2013 I stared at this a long time trying to decide if I liked it. I took in every detail and then it hit me, you sucked me in. This did exactly what a good image should. I do like it. Great mood and composition. Very well done. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted August 6, 2013 This is collage-like in effect and I don't know if I can add much to what Jack stated so richly, but I want to because the photo deserves it. There's a certain breathing quality and energy especially in the fogged or smudged mirrors and the strong highlighting and color change and gradation on the wall above. There's a scrappiness to this that is most engaging. It successfully uses visual aspects and qualities to provoke interest, which is as visual as it is narrative, if even not specific. For me, the title is rather a distraction as I'd much prefer to view it free of any pre-determined association. That's as much about me and titles as it is about your choice here, by the way. But I like to be honest even if I risk showing that I have my own biases. Link to comment
AmyHelmick 0 Posted August 7, 2013 Thank you all so much for your responses and feedback on this photo. Regarding titles...I see your point about predetermined associations. There are also times I think that the title can contribute to the work and, in fact, be a part of the piece. For me, this is one of those pieces; I feel that in this case the title contributes more than it distracts. Granted, it's hard to be objective about your own stuff, thus the value of critiques :-)Thanks to all for sharing your thoughts; they are very much appreciated.Amy Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted August 24, 2013 It reminds me of some resemblance to Jack's way of observation...and it is a compliment...;-))This is a real interesting composition. What make it for me are the brushes on the upper LHS , and the mirror of a present/missing woman..So your title go's hand in hand..with the story...! Link to comment

Landrum Kelly 65 Posted September 4, 2013 This is an extraordinary picture. I really think that the title is telling me something here, although I am not sure exactly what. There is always a sense of mystery in your best work. --Lannie Link to comment

timothymuffitt 1 Posted September 25, 2014 This is a wonderful image Amy! It is appealing on so many levels. I echo Jack's comment on tone. For me the tone establishes a sense of an era, but the starkness of the modern wall plug jolts us back to reality. Aside from everything else, it is also works as a nice still life...shapes, lines and light all working beautifully together.Tim Link to comment
