Man, Gordon, you do come up with some spectacular pictures from your undersea adventures. The detail and nuanced color here is sensational. For some reason it reminds me of Botticelli's Birth of Venus.

This is a beauty, the details are amazing ,as well as the entire forum. The light in the deep water, could not be better! Very nice natural  creature,  and photographer..!.

Thanks to each of you for the comments.

Pnina not sure of what you mean. This is the entire creature, or at least the part that protrudes from the ocean floor.

For the most part no I am not here, I am mainly elsewhere. The summer is short in this part of the northern hemisphere and there is much to be done. Winter will arrive soon enough and then I may have more time for PN.

Hey Gord,

This critter is exquisite and so is the capture. Perfectly presented with almost unbelievable light, detail and clarity. So, what is it? Is it some form of anemone? Whatever it is, this shot is totally top drawer!

Best,

David

Dave, This creature is indeed related to anenomes and the soft corals.Sea Pens - Pennatulacea

They have the ability to pull themselves down into the reef and vanish if threatened. You can see the tube like structure at the base. Hard to see at this size but there are also a number of small cleaner shrimp in the photo close to the central quill of the feather.

Nice to hear from you Dave!
