Thanks for looking. I'd appreciate any feedback, specifically regarding composition, but all is

welcome.

Hi Jon, I would love to give constructive criticism about composition but not knowing what you wanted to do, I am guessing a bit.  I notice that you used a long focal length zoom lens, so I am guessing that you wanted to show details of the waves and their breaking (as opposed to a landscape picture with wave action spread out.  If I were doing that I would consider leaving out the waves at the top of the picture and zoom even closer (assuming you were not at maximum zoom) to show the details of those waves breaking close up.  (Try holding your hand up so as to exclude those upper waves and notice how that brings your attention to the lower ones)  I like how the rocks in the wet sand look, so I would want to emphasize them.  I would probably tilt the picture slightly and end up with a picture that had blue water at the top, a set of breaking waves with all their whiteness, a stripe of wet sand and a stripe of less wet sand.  In fact I would probably make 25 different crops like this and then choose the one most visually attractive to me.  That might take a lot of time but really the reason we are here is that we like to spend time with photography. I almost forgot to mention that a bit of sharpening was done too.

Cheers,

Jerry

I think the image is inside this one. I feel there is too much in the periphery. A crop would eliminate some and focus more on the breaking wave. Lots of ways to crop of course, I've included my preference. I cropped out some of the foreground sand as I find the bokeh rather buzzy if you will. I like the pebbles on the left. I also rotated it a bit clockwise as the background water strikes me as sloping down to the left. Probably due to the wave motion, it just strikes me that way. Rotating it puts the wave on more of a diagonal line. Just my 2 cents.
Regards

Greg
