geopappas 0 Posted August 12, 2003 Very cool. This is the type of abstract photo that I really enjoy. It looks like honey and makes me wonder if they are stuck to it!?! What is the white substance that they are standing on? Nice job. Link to comment
margaret_s. 0 Posted August 18, 2003 Really great photo! Only negative is the size of the photo, it's hard to see it properly because it's so large. Link to comment
peter_steeper 0 Posted August 22, 2003 The white surface is a large white porcelain serving dish. (My wife's favourite serving dish!) The kids thought it was cool but my wife had a different opinion. I used the intervalometer on my digital camera so I have a lot of pictures of the ants coming and going. I thought this was one of the more aesthetic pictures. I tried it a second time outside with a larger spot of syrup. The syrup was completely gone after two days. The ants are very active during the day but not at night. Link to comment
jeff d 1 Posted September 22, 2003 You really captured my imagination. If you really wanted to have some fun... try to ps them into a football play... they look like players on a coach's chalk board. Link to comment
ciofalo 0 Posted October 6, 2003 This is great. I have seen it many times here browsing PN, and I have always promised to myself to come back and leave a comment and a rating, but have postponed until now. I really appreciate how this photo combines an intrinsic value as a fine, almost abstract, composition, with the added value of being a macro - and a well shot, well focused, well lit one as to that. I also congratulate with the photographer for the smart idea of setting a lure and having the camera shoot at intervals; this is something that professional nature photographers do all the time, but that is rarely seen among amateurs (never seen here in PN before, for example). jfochoa 0 Posted December 13, 2003 This is 7/7. Original and very well done. IMHO there`s no doubt about 7 in aesthetics... too! Congrats. Link to comment
toddlaffler 0 Posted August 16, 2004 Thanks for commenting on my ant/honey shot. As I mentioned on my photo's critique section, I must have seen your image several months before and stored it in the back of my mind. I wasn't trying to rip you off in any way. I'm glad someone gave credit to you though. Afterwards, I felt very guilty about my "Originality" ratings. I read about your wife's displeasure in using her stuff. :) I just used a white board and plopped it down in the grass under the shade of a tree. I don't know about the ants in your photograph, but the ones I photographed were VERY skittish. If I so much as grazed the board they were feasting on, they would scatter immediately. I also over overexposed my shot, and then further blew out the whites all together in PS. I also recommend using a higher grade honey as it has more "color" to it and tends to stay in place easier. Great job on this shot Peter, truly original. Warm Regards, Todd Link to comment
