The Face Painting

Another rescue from the old shoebox. Technical details lost to antiquity. Probably about 1\125 @ f4 or 5.6 hand held.

Face painting is a pleasure to watch and it creates such joy for both the painter and paintee. This image has been superbly captured and it tells the story very well.

I have 2 granddaughters and that has caused me to ask the question whether this is a healthy activity. Here is what I found on the net:

All the very best,

Thanks for the vote of confidence and the link.  Head lice transfers? (look where the painter's left hand is placed)  Never would have occurred to me but it makes sense.  Many others never think about it either or I doubt it would be as popular as it is.  Good of you to take the time.  Best, LM.

Hi Len

1985!! At that time I have Yashica FX3, but I have never obtained such fine colours and textures even in my dream. I liked its spontaneity. best regards

Very sweet little girl.some of  her face flowers are imitating her dress...I have never  used paint for this purpose (well once, used lipstick and face pencils)...

Len, sorry for not visiting your work lately...I was  and still am  preparing for the Venice Biannale, as one of my photos was chosen to be exhibited there.(an Israeli artists group).

I will travel  for t he opening with my daughter and there are many preparations ..

Thanks for  your visit and comment of my work!

Good to hear from you again.  The 'fine' colours you refer to are compliments of Kodak Kodachrome 64 combined with a Minolta 100mm macro.  This was a 'spur of the moment' candid I spotted while walking past the face painting kiosk at Kempenfest, our local summer arts festival.  Never lost for photo opportunities there.   Best, LM.

Apparently girls, of this age especially, find this activity to be fun.  And done tastefully, as I believe it is here,  I think it is.  Congrats on having one of your photos chosen for display.  According to Google, if I understood it correctly,  Venice Biannale is to the arts community what Photokina is to photographers.  Which photo of yours was selected?  You should have many photo opportunities presented to you on your visit.  Looking forward to see what you come home with.  Enjoy!  Best, LM.

Dear Len ,you have to believe Museeb honesty, then he was unable and till the present day he was unable to reproduce such fine colors too, even in his wildest dreams, while it was very utterly easy to me to produce such a nice colors in my dream.I think I will teach him How To.

Stay well ,both of you .

LOL!  I love the camaraderie between you two.  My sense of things though is that you would each go to the wall for the other.  But I hope you never have to.  Thanks for your always welcome input.  Best, LM.

Well composed and you captured the little girl's sweet expression really well!  Did she get to see the photo?

Thanks for your thoughts on this one.  It was a candid of opportunity spotted as I walked by this booth at Barrie's  Kempenfest.  I didn't know the little one and got the film back too long after the event in any case.  To my knowledge she's never seen this photo and won't be likely to as this shot is 28 years old.  I wouldn't risk the potential hassle of photographing an unknown child in today's paranoid atmosphere.  But it was too cute to pass up at the time & if perchance she sees it now I'd be happy to supply her with a copy.  Best, LM.

Very interesting to note the image is 28 years old, yet remains as valid and current today as it was back then.

Its a wonderful expression from the little girl, very patient, but very happy. And I note that the flowers on her dress are kind of repeated on her face by the artist, I wonder if that was deliberate. Guess we'll never know. I also like the erm "when's it gonna be my turn" bored expression from the next in line.

Great opportunist photograph!

Best Regards

Alf

I often find that when my photography experiences a dry spell, as is currently the case, I can usually find something worth posting in my old shoebox. I tend to agree with your observations but due to the age of this offering I can't really address the questions raised.  Yah, the little guy does have that look of anticipation on his face.  Pnina voiced the same observation about the flowers on her dress & face.  I'm certain the artist picked up on the theme.  Thanks for taking the time & effort to comment on this gem from the past.  Best, LM.

I wish it were true.  I don't know the subject & it was taken many years ago, a candid of opportunity, grab shot if you will, back in the day when one could still risk taking such a shot of an unknown child.  Thanks for your thoughts.  Best, LM.

Yah, kids of this age may be a bit apprehensive at first but then go around for the rest of the day beaming at anyone who happens to notice them.  :-)  They seem to love the smiles that the face painting gets them.  Thanks for your always welcome visits.  Best, LM.
