I just want to give some info on the pic, maybe you kow all about this place, others maybe not. A caption has to include the 5 W's : Who, What, Where, When and Why ! If i see a nice pic of a flower, a landscape, aperson, a happening, whatever... I want to know the names, where it's taken, what's special about it and some additional facts about it. In my oppinion it only makes the pic more valuable. Best Regards, Geert Vanden Wijngaert

The caption is excellent (I would rate the caption as a 7) and adds tremendously to the photo. Absent the background information, it would be just another high mountain scene with a road and a truck in it.

This brings back fond memories!

As for the picture itself... I'm not sure. To me it has a high snapshot-feel. I think you might do something similor but more dramatic/colorful by getting closer to the truck, and use the majestic mountains more as a backdrop (now it's a bit confusing which is the subject).

Just my 2cts of course. And as said the shot did make my heart skip a beat.

Regards,

Tom

Over the last 20 years, I've purchased a quite a few books by top-flight photographers. Typically, on one page is the "plate," the image and the opposite page has a paragraph or two about the image, often a short story. It is disappointing to admire a beautiful image on Photo.net and there be no caption, often not even an image title. Personally, I am grateful that Geert Vanden Wijngaert thought enough of us to give us the story of this highway. And the photo itself? Over the top. Very fine image. Thank you, Geert.

Tom, nice this pic let your heart skip a beat. I disagree with your idea this pic is more like a snapshot. The subject of this pic is telling in my opinion the whole story of Karakorum Highway. It shows the Highway is following the River Indus (for more than 400km - 248 miles) and the Karakorum range (from beginning till end). It shows the main users of this highway and the reason why it was constructed (transport of goods). It shows everything about this highway, except a close up of the truck, and that would have been a real snapshot, my opinion. Best regards, Geert Vanden Wijngaert

I, like several others, found that your caption was very informative. I love to travel and I love to see other people's good travel pictures. Although I have never been to this area, your photograph gives me a good idea of what the area is like. I consider this to be a good photograph. If you have a separte closeup of the bus that would also be a very good picture.

I love the picture. Your text added impact to the otherwise 'normal' feel. Indeed this photo doesn't just convey documentary of event, it is in itself powerful with the history behind it.
